Setting up your airbnb living room seems easy enough. Every home has one and you’ve probably furnished one before. The problem is, when you’re setting up a short term rental living room it isn’t about what you want – it’s about your guests’ comfort.

You don’t need me to tell you the basics, get some furniture, make sure it looks good. But here’s a short list of little things you can add to your airbnb living room, that have helped make a difference for my guests. (And if you need an exhaustive list, download ours here!)

  1. Tissue box. Having ready access to tissues when you have a runny nose or need to sneeze is helpful.

When I’m in a new place and don’t know where to find anything, it’s such a relief when it’s readily available for me. I like to add a tissue cover so it goes with my aesthetic.
  2. Throw pillows. I don’t particularly care about throw pillows, but I can’t tell you how many guests thank me for including them.

If you have back problems, or difficulty getting comfortable, having a throw pillow to prop behind you can go a long way in getting you comfortable. And not to mention, layers are so important to creating a beautiful room!

You can often find great options at your local Home Goods, but I’ve included a couple links here too. I have these, these and this one in my listing.
  3. Drink Tables. Every seat should have a spot to place a drink.

This can be a table behind the sofa, an end table in between chairs or just a small drink table (this link is more money than I would spend for a short term rental, but its so pretty!) to rest their coffee in the morning. Being able to set their drink down keeps your guest in a relaxed state.
  4. A tray for remotes. Not only does this help guests quickly find the tv or speaker remote, it also helps to make sure those remotes don’t get lost in between reservations.

Trays serve as great catch all spots for items and will help you keep your space organized.
  5. Conversation cards. Your guests are in a different state of mind when traveling and they are more open to trying new things.

This is the perfect time to help your guests increase connections with their travel buddy. And it can help creative positive memories of your short term rental. Increased connection leads to a dopamine release and more positive connection with your listing. And that leads to an increased likelihood they return!
